Henna Paste Recipe

How to mix Henna:

For a big batch (approximately 400gram of paste/ 20x 20 gram cones)

  • 100 g Henna powder
  • 30 ml pure essential oil (for example eucalyptus/ lavender/ cajeput)
  • 10-40 g sugar (if the humidity is high, use less. If low, use more sugar)
  • around 200ml water for consistency

For a smaller batch (Around 3-5 cones)

  • 3 tablespoons henna powder
  • 3 tea spoons essential oil
  • 3 tea spoons sugar
  • Add water for consistency

Mix every ingredient in a bowl, until the consistency is creamy. Be careful not to add too much of the liquids. The paste should not be too runny. And if that happens, just add a little more powder. If the paste is too thick, add a few drops of the water little by little. Mix for approximately 15 minutes. Cover the bowl airtight with cling film and let it sit for the dye release in a dark warm place for 6-12 hours. Mix the paste once again after this and test a little spot on your skin by putting a little paste on it. Leave it on for 15 minutes to see if it will be a bright orange stain. Do not wash it off with water! If the stain is not good enough, cover it again and let it sit a bit more. If the room is too cold, try to find a warmer place (but do not overcook it). Put the paste in an icing bag to fill it into little cones.

Henna Care Instructions:

• Before applying the henna, make sure that the skin is free of lotions and oils! Wash it with water or clean it with alcohol
• After the paste is on, keep it for at least 8 hours. For better stain results, try to keep it for 12-20 hours. The longer it stays, the darker it gets. If the paste cracks off, apply a lemon-sugar sealant to avoid this
• To remove the paste, do not use water! Simply pick the dry paste off/ or apply olive oil/coconut oil to soften it up, and wipe it off with a towel
• Avoid water contact on the first day. This is very important for the stain development! If unavoidable, apply our henna balm, or olive oil or coconut oil before, to protect the henna from water
• The henna stain will first be orange, and gets its fully dark brown colour after 48 hours. Be patient! And apply the henna 2 days before an event.
• The Henna stains for 1-2 weeks, depending on how well its been taken care of
